save darfur- it’s time to do something for someone else.

why we need to end the conflict in darfur
after the holocaust, the world made a promise that never again will we let such an atrocity occur. well, it did. on our watch. rwanda as well as hundreds of other genocides did. we cannot be bystanders to this. hundreds of thousands have died since the start of the darfur massacre. millions have been displaced because their homes have been burnt down. countless women and children have been raped. we are basically murderers for allowing this to happen. as priviledged people, we have the power to change the situation in Sudan. America claims to be a nation that helps other countries. Look at Iraq. We supposedly went to Iraq to establish a more strong government for the country’s citzens. But, it has forced me to believe that we are actually selfish in the way we try to be selfless. Many believe the only reason why we decided to help Iraq is to reap the benefits of the hard labor- in other words OIL! Why is it that the UN can’t seem to live up to its original mission? Why are they cutting food aid to refugees in half? We need to take a stand.

flds – my thoughts
April 26, 2008

So, recently, there has been a lot of buzz, controversy, and sickening details into this Texas sect that many consider a cult. One of the problems is the polygamy issue. Why do these men feel the need to marry more than one wife. It is disgusting and unfair to the women. This can result in a pandemic of sexually transmitted diseases. What is even worse and makes you want to cry is that many of these wives are teenagers, children, young women, that have barely been broken into society. As soon as they hit puberty, they are forced to marry old men! These girls miss out on their childhood. They are meant to be baby-making machines. && the only way for them to be accepted is to “please their husbands and cater to their needs and wants.” How is this in any way just? It makes me sick in my stomach to watch the invasion into the cults. I just get this sick feeling. The worst part is, the people are shut behind gates. Like animals at a zoo, they go through their daily lives, not quite knowing what lies outside their gated community. No freedom. Can you imagine that?
This religion, sought out acceptance from God. Everything they have done, they have done in the name of God. But really, is this what God wanted? I highly doubt that.

imperfections!
April 26, 2008

I would like to talk about each candidates faults:First up, Hilary Clinton. The thing is with her is that nothing is all that attractive about her positions. she is unoriginal and is trying to be like her husband. It is also tiring how she frequently disses bush! she always talks about how she wants to unite both the republican and democrat parties- so why is she bashing bush at every debate and speech she makes. We get it, Hil, you don’t like bush, much like the other 67 % of the U.S. Next up, Senator Obama:Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with Obama, but others do. Some say he doesn’t have enough experience. Well, um, Bush had “experience”- look where that lead us. Others are worried that if he’s elected, he will be assassinated because of his skin color. The KKK have sent him a death threat, so who knows what is possible.John McCainJohn McCain started as an elderly underdog. He has clearly proven himself worthy of the title, Commander in Chief. However, is he too old? Moreover, he has clearly said that he doesn’t know much about the economy. With our economy’s plummet, we kinda sorta need a President who knows a thing or two. Also, what is up with John McCain’s facial expessions. I have never ever seen him laugh or actually smile a geniune smile.
Clearly, none of the presidents are perfect, but I guess we should pick one that we feel reflects our beliefs. Stay tuned, fans. Starting tomorrow, I will bring up an issue a day and give their positions as well as MINE =]
gay marriage
April 21, 2008

Gay Marriage. It is a controversial topic, no doubt. A great deal of the population is totally against and disgusted by the thought of two members of the same gender joining together in matrimony, while another large portion support the idea of a civil union. A civil union is, in simpleton terms, a signed commitment that the two persons will be living together. Though it is considered to have the same rights as a marriage, others argue that it’s the principal behind it. They want equal rights. And how do the Presidential candidates feel about this?Obama, the Senator of Illinois, has supported equal rights for gay men, but has opposed gay marriage. Hilary Clinton, Senator of New York, has voted against the amendment that would allow gay marriage if passed. She also supports a civil union. And McCain? Well, he’s been flip flopping on this issue like John Kerry was back in 2004. He keeps switching his position back and forth on whether or not gay people should have the same rights as straight men and women. How do I feel about this? it’s a tough topic, but i fully support them for now. Straight, but not narrow.
dear mr.president

Today, i am feeling extremely cynical. So, I youtube-ed a bunch of anti-bush videos, and one really caught my attention. It is the song by Pink, titled Dear Mr. President. It is an emotional song that has a different tune from the rest of the angry I HATE BUSH SONGs you know and love. I was really surprised that PINK wrote such a song, but I have to say I am very impressed.. This is a really good song, so I hope you enjoy it.
war- what is it good for?
April 20, 2008
A while ago, I was talking with Alan Canfora, a devoted activist from the 1970s and was actually shot in the wrist by the National Guard on May 4 1970 in Kent State University. As a strong anti-war hippie even today, we discussed the parties and the differences. Before the meeting him, I thought that Republicans and Democrats were not that different, but it turns out they are, I guess. One of the major differences is WAR. War. It is a three letter word that causes so much destruction and pain to all the parties involved. Leftists are typically totally against war in general. Democratsbelieve that there are countless ways to avoid it. And of course, a common statement is that it doesn’t solve a thing. War just throws away countless lives- someone’s sister or brother, someone’s child, someone’s best friend, someone’s spouse. Republicans campaigning right now do not have the intention to withdraw troops from Iraq until the original “mission” is accomplished. McCain has said on several occasions that if it takes 100 years to finish up the Iraq War, then we’ll be there for 100 years. And I? I am a hippie at heart. I, like Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., believe nonviolence and peace. Why sacrifice lives when not necessary? It just doesn’t make sense. Thinking about it now, I can’t believe I have ever supported a war barbarian better known as John McCain. I believe it is necessary to end the war in Iraq. End the bloodshed, end the pain. racism
April 17, 2008

I decided to digress from the usual political stuff i write about because if you think about it, it isn’t even remotely important and in dire need of discussion compared to disheartening topics like racism. For as long as there have been whites, blacks, browns, and beige people, there has been oppression upon one another. You see caucasians treating “blacks” worse than dogs and it isn’t in any way fair. You would think that people would learn that we aren’t really all that different. We’re just colors on this huge planet, just going through life. Why is it that some of us are so insecure that we have this urge to put down other people. it just doesn’t make sense. will martin luther king jr.’s dream of peace among the races ever be fulfilled? the truth is, i doubt it. as long as we all have different skin tones, there will be oppression, ignorance, and hatred.
could this be the end of the clinton era?
April 16, 2008
Could this be the end of the Clinton Era?
At first, political gurus were all in unison that New York Senator Hilary Clinton was absolutely going to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. As months, debates, and primaries passed, Hillary clinton’s lead over Senator Barack Obama began to dwindle. Polls are now dead close, and every little word from the opponent’s mouth is attacked upon. Kindergarten records are being pulled up. Tracings of Obama’s family tree has begun as well. It seems to be that Obama is inching above Clinton in the race, something nobody thought would happen in 2007. It appears that maybe being nonviolent does prevail. Maybe one doesn’t need to be a vicious bull, whose attacks seem to kill him in the end. So, if good prevails over evil like in a storytale, this marks the end of the Clinton Era. Could it be? Could it be that the lying, no-good white trash will end up bowing their heads in shame?
karma

Got Karma?
a conversation with a friend led me to wondering; are we repaid for the good deeds we do? for instance what about “always the bridesmaid and never the bride” how come she doesn’t get married? Apparently, what goes around doesn’t come back around. Why? Doesn’t she deserve that? Anyways, life is supposed to be at least somewhat balanced. So why aren’t my deeds being repaid? Am I supposed to keep on waiting? Just, have faith or hope Hope. What if you’re tired of hoping?
