Innocence

i open the front door
what do I see

cherry blossoms blooming
far above my head
the sun is shining
the smell of a fresh new day

I turn on the TV
what do I hear

another car bomb
another ten dead
will there ever be peace
in the middle east?

four years of genocide
hearts in tears
lives in fear
is there an end in sight?

a nation
forced to pick sides
whatever happened to
“together we stand
divided we fall”?

a false pretense
the truth hidden from me
innocence lost
an empty facade?

here i am
forced to reveal
the truths of reality
isn’t there another option?
